The capital of Macedonia is a city with dramatic and fascinating history. The disaster, which had killed thousands of lives in 518, was not the last tragedy in the history of the city. A really curious sight is Karavan-Sarai Kurshumli Khan hotel, which is known far beyond city limits. It was built in the 15th century and initially served as an inn for merchants. The unique historical hotel building managed to survive to this day, although it repeatedly changed its status over the years of its existence. At the end of the 19th century, it housed a prison where they kept Bulgarian revolutionaries. During the First World War, the building was in a state of neglect.
