The first settlement on the site of Fethiye was founded back in prehistoric times. The modern city is full of interesting cultural and historical monuments. The most interesting historical object in Fethiye is Lycian rock tombs. According to scientists, their age is more than two and a half thousand years. On one of the hills there is the famous tomb of Amyntas; all those interested can climb the steps to the sacred site.

At the top of a steep hill there is incomparable Fethiye Castle, which is associated with many interesting legends. According to one of them, the powerful castle was built by Order of St. John. After admiring the old castle visitors can go to the eastern part of the hill, where there are several ancient tombs too. Fans of the mysterious myths and legends will be interesting to see the famous spring of the Arax located in the immediate vicinity of Fethiye. The spring is surrounded by huge boulders. According to historical data, up to the 15th century, the local women have come here to wash clothes and used huge stones instead of washboards.
