Just out of the city, you'll find the ancient monastery Eremo Delle Carceri, which is also available for tours now. This is a cave monastery, and many of its cells were built in natural grottoes. Some of them have even preserved stone beds, on which monks slept hundreds of years ago. A beautiful oak forest has surrounded the monastery for years. Not far from the city center is San Damiano Monastery, which is now considered a historical site of world importance. This monastery was founded by St. Francis. It was decided to build it on the site of an old dilapidated church. The patron saint personally took part in the construction work and rebuilt the small church on his own.
