The brightest tourist attraction of Amersfoort is the beautiful Toren Tower. Once the 94-meter-high Woman's Tower was part of a large-scale construction - the Lange Jan cathedral. Unfortunately, only one tower survived from the beautiful church, which doesn't prevent it from looking very impressive. The tower is located on the Lieve Vrouwe Kerkhof square - the main and most beautiful square of the city. No less interesting religious landmark is the Cathedral of St. Joris. An important historic landmark is the Koppelpoort Towers and an ancient gate located next to them, which once served as an entrance to the city. Looking at part of the surviving city wall, you can see the ancient gates of Kamperbinnen and Monnickendam. The first was built in the middle of the 13th century, and the second - two centuries later. The best way to appreciate the panoramic view of the picturesque city is to take a balloon ride. Such flights are extremely popular among visitors to Amersfoort. The city has a specially-equipped platform from which huge colorful balloons take off. The so-called Air Tour became a kind of ritual, which every traveler should observe. For those who are afraid of heights, there is no less attractive option - to ride a boat along the city canals and appreciate its unique architectural sights.

An important sightseeing point is an old cemetery where more than 800 Soviet soldiers who died during the Second World War are buried. Despite the fact that the attraction has quite a gloomy status, it is frequently visited by foreign travelers. The entrance to the cemetery is decorated with a propeller from an old Soviet aircraft. In the city center, you can see an unusual monument - a huge boulder. According to the legend, 400 locals brought it to the city who chose this way to demonstrate their strength. Amersfoort has several interesting museums. Priceless historical artifacts can be seen at Museum Flehite. Amersfoort is known as the hometown of Piet Mondrian, and it is therefore not surprising that there is a museum in the city dedicated to his work (Mondriaanhuis). The museum is located on the place where the renowned artist was born and he resided up until he was 8 years of age. Another interesting square is known simply as Hof. This is the main square of the city. It is surrounded by ancient buildings. You can behold a fountain in the middle of the square – meaning you should definitely throw a coin in it to ensure you visit this place again. Also around are well-located cafes, restaurants and shops.

Next to the Hof square is located the Onze-Lieve-Vrouwetoren church, which is considered the tallest in the city. In addition, it is clearly visible from any city. The turret is simply a goldmine of legends; you should definitely get to know them from the locals. You can climb to the observation deck on a spiral staircase, from where you can behold incredibly amazing views of the hometown of Piet Mondrian, enjoying and envying the locals a bit, who see such beauty every day. To the commoners, the temple is simply called “the heart of the Netherlands”, since it is believed to be located right in the middle of the country. The church is very beautiful, both on the outside and on the inside.

Another architecturally interesting building can be found while walking along the Pothstraat. The houses are called Hofje de Armen de Poth. This is a kind of charity shelter which was founded as far back as the 16th century. All of them can literally immerse you in the medieval atmosphere, since the buildings are all built in this style. You can also take a nice walk along Oude Haven. A leisurely walk through the canals of the city is the best way to brighten up your time in the city – after all, there are also a lot of little houses in the medieval architectural style, which will give you real pleasure while looking at them.
