Alonissos is not the biggest island of the Aegean sea. However, those who enjoy long walks will find routes of different difficulty and length. You can reach Chora in less than an hour, following the steep road. There are amazing views which won’t live anybody indifferent. You can also go to Gérakas, a shepherd village. But the way to the settlement is quite long. But you don’t have to move on foot, you can take a bus or rent a car, a motorbike or a bicycle.

Diving fans will love the island. Alonissos is a part of the National Marine Park which was established in 1992 in order to protect monk seals and other sea inhabitants. The waters of Alonissos are rich with different flora and fauna species. Sometimes divers meet monk seals in the sea. But the animals are very shy and they don’t swim close to the shore and divers.

The wildlife is not the only interesting thing on the island. The pearl of Alonissos is an ancient sunken ship which displacement exceeded 100 tons. Before the moment when the ship was found, it was believed that Greeks didn’t have enough information about navigation to build such a capacious vessel. Moreover, you should definitely dive near the bay of Vasilikos. There are the remains of eight Byzantine ships. You don’t have to undergo a diving training to admire the underwater world. It is easy to find a secluded place for snorkelling on the beaches of Alonissos. You can rent a snorkel, a mask and flippers on the island. You can swim with a mask on a beach close to Patitiri. Marpounta Beach is perfect for snorkelling too. If you love pebble beaches, be sure to visit Megalos Mourtias. Vrisitsa and Vythisma are nice beaches too, but it is hard to reach the second one without a boat. Chrisi Milia is a wonderful sandy beach. Roussoum Gialos and Votsi are beaches with taverns on their territories.

Be sure to go on a sightseeing tour around the island. Firstly, Alonissos looks amazing from the sea. Secondly, there is a chance to see sea inhabitants such as dolphins and sea basses. There are kayaks from Patitri to nearby Peritera and Kyra Panagia. They are almost uninhabited. You can meet the inhabitants of nearby settlements on Peritera, who take care of olive trees or you can meet tourists who are looking for a secluded place to have a picnic. You can tent and have a barbecue here, but only in a particular area. There are two monasteries on Kyra Panagia, one of them still functions.

Check the weather forecast and take enough products before going to the nearby islands. You won't have an opportunity to reach Alonissos in the case of bad weather. Moreover, you can go to more remote islands. For example, Skyros. Alonissos is an ideal place for watersport activities. You can try waterskiing, sailing or play beach volleyball here. The nightlife is concentrated in the capital or the main beaches which become open ait dance floors at night.
