The Osu Castle is an important historical landmark of the 17th century in Accra. Built near the coastline, this castle was long the seat of the country’s government. The fortress is one of the most famous landmarks of the colonial period. It was built in the period when several countries competed for the right to occupy the territory of modern Accra. A wealthy Danish merchant was the person who decided to build this protective fortress. The Osu Castle belonged to Denmark until the mid-19th century. Later, it was decided to sell the castle to England. An interesting fact: the old castle is still a presidential palace. Tourists can visit it only at a certain time during excursions. There is a shopping center and a café open in the castle territory.

When searching for an interesting place to take a stroll, make your choice in favor of James Town. This peaceful neighborhood is famous for its original architecture.
