Originally, the Fort located in the Gulf of Monterey was used for the postal purposes of the US Army. After the closure of the fort, hundreds of new houses were built on its territory. Today, visitors can admire this remarkable historical object at the interesting trade center and stroll along the picturesque streets. In addition, there are several scientific complexes on the territory of the fort, and part of the territory is occupied by a nature reserve with many interesting walking routes.
Among the military projects of the United States, which have been closed, Fort Ord is the largest. There used to be several sports centers and even golf courses there, so soldiers were able to recover. A couple of golf courses have been preserved to this day and are available to all guests of the national nature reserve. The best time to visit the old Fort Ord is in summer, when a lot of interesting hiking and cycling tours are offered. Lovers of nature and sports, shopping fans and those who like to walk in deserted places will find a suitable place to rest on the territory of the former military base.
