Gerald R. Ford International Airport is located in the state of Michigan, USA. It is 22 km away from the centre of Grand Rapids, a city in Kent County. The airport is a commercial facility. It was opened in the 1920s, after which it was renovated and changed its location several times. It was originally called Kent County Airport, then Kent County International Airport. Finally, in 1999, it got its current name. The airport has three runways. It handles over 3 million passengers every year. Two concourses (concourses A and B) of a passenger terminal serve the passengers. Gerald R. Ford Airport also handles general aviation and air freight.

As for public transport, there are Bus Route 17 (Ride the rapid) and Greyhound buses. The latter ones depart for GRR from the city centre. You can also take a taxi (a parking lot near Exit 4) or rent a limousine at the airport.

Rental offices, how to find them, where to return car

There are several large car rental companies at the airport: Avis, Budget, Enterprise rent a car, Hertz, Dollar, National, Alamo. The offices of the companies are situated on the first level of a garage located near the passenger terminal. You can get to the car rental centre through pedestrian overpasses connecting the passenger terminal to Level 2 of the garage. The rental centre can also be reached through street crossings. Having left the baggage reclaim area, you should head for Exit 5 or 6. The entrance to the car rental centre is opposite the valet parking lot and Exit 6 from the terminal.

A car can be taken in the garage in front of the terminal. It’s done on the first level in the rental car area. The entrance is opposite the valet parking lot.

The cars are returned to a special parking lot that can be easily found if you follow ‘Rental car return’ signs.

Long-term and short-term parking, hotels nearby

There are the following parking options near the terminals: roofed short-term and long-term car parks, open-air long-term parking lots (northern and eastern lots), valet parking, and economy parking. Only unloading of passengers is allowed near the terminal. A multi-storey garage before the terminals has different entrances to the short-term and long-term parking lots. There’s transfer to and from economy parking lots.

The baggage reclaim hall has an info centre where you can find out about the nearest hotels and whether they offer free transfer from/to the airport. The following hotels organize transfer for their guests: Comfort Inn, Courtyard by Marriott Airport, Hampton Inn and Suites, Hilton Garden Inn, Country Inn and Suites, Holiday Inn, Homewood Suites by Hilton, Spring Hill Suites by Marriott Airport and others.
