Rostock hosts a great number of remarkable museums keeping unique collections of precious things. A remaining building of ancient abbey houses the Museum of Cultural History which was established in 1859. Its exhibition contains household things, handicrafts, astonishing works of pictorial art and statues. Some of the showpieces are more than three hundred years old.
