We recommend starting your sightseeing in Augsburg from the central square named Rathausplatz. Here is located the town hall – a wonderful sight of the Renaissance period. Perlachturm tower was added to the town hall in the end of the 18th century. The height of the tower estimates 80 meters. All tourists can climb this tower up and look at the views of the city from the observation deck. You should also visit the Golden Hall that has been opened in one of the rooms of the town hall. Here you will find valuable pictures and sculptures of famous German painters. Opposite to the town hall is located one of the symbols of Augsburg – a fountain, which has been created in the name of the emperor Augustine and is called after him.
Fuggerei is the oldest part of the city. Buildings located here were created in the 16th and 17th centuries, but still look wonderful. You can learn more about this quarter and its story in the Museum of Fuggerei that is opened in one of the old houses. The Cathedral of St. Maria is definitely the most notable religious building in Augsburg. The building of the cathedral started in the 9th century and lasted over 6 hundreds of years! Her you will find an underground chapel, a magnificently beautiful altar and unforgettable frescoes and statues.
