Another wine making center is the city of Saint-Emilion. There are also various historical landmarks to see. One of them is an amazing Saint-Emilion Church, built back in 12th century. Carved into the rock, it has survived until nowadays and has also been declared the world-wide landmark. The complex was enhanced with extensive tunnel network. These days it is used as a wine-vault.
Pyla dune is the unique natural landmark of Aquitaine. This sand dune of 104 meters high is the biggest one in Europe. It's located close to Arcachon bay beaches and offers an excellent panoramic view over surrounding area.
Bird Island is a must see place for nature enthusiasts. It's a beautiful wildlife sanctuary protected by government. This scenic island houses dozens of bird species including rare ones. Despite of the reserve status, numerous wooden cabins for guests were built on the island shore. Famous oyster farms are also located there; they are very popular among the tourists. These farms saw a lot of notable guests. Facilities have being supplying nobles with oysters since 18th century. Every town in Aquitaine has a lot to offer to its visitors.
