Fort Calgary Historic Park is an equally important attraction. The construction of the fort was completed in 1875. The massive structure existed until 1914. In the beginning of the 20th century a large railway company decided to destroy the old fort as it prevented construction works. In 1970 archaeologists discovered the surviving fragments of the fort and eight years later a park was founded around the historical building. Today it is considered the most important historical site in the city.
Glenbow Museum is the most ambitious cultural center of the city. Here visitors will find more than two dozen galleries. Among the items exhibited visitors will find collections of works of art, medieval armor, jewelry, and even samurai swords – the themes of the collections exhibited in the museum are very diverse. The museum regularly hosts various interesting exhibitions and other cultural events. Fans of classical music and theatre art will be genuinely interested in visiting EPCOR Centre for the Performing Arts. It is located near the center of the city and includes four theater scenes, as well as a concert hall for several thousand people.
