Construction of the unique building begun in 1959; it was completed only in 1973. During this time, only on rough estimates, over one hundred million Australian dollars were spent for the construction of the building. Today, the unique building is considered to be a shining example of the expressionism. The length is 185 meters and a maximum width is 120 meters. The structure of the building is very complex. It is based on 580 piles, which go underwater for 25 meters.

Thanks to the sound-reflecting ceilings and unusual geometric shape of the building, the special acoustics is achieved, which makes the sound of familiar instruments very special.
