IHG Debuts With Its New Brand Vignette Collection in Europe

IHG Hotels & Resorts continues active expansion of its newest brand Vignette Collection and announces first European properties. The company will partner with JJW Hotels & Resorts (JJW) and open two hotels in Europe, namely, in Austria and Portugal. This is a significant step forward for the hotel brand that was launched only 4 months ago. Vignette Collection is the 17th hotel brand in IHG’s portfolio.

This luxury collection brand will have its presence in the most sought-after cities and resorts. IHG welcomes independent hotels to this collection. To be able to join Vignette Collection, hotels need to not only have a unique location but also have a distinctive identity. Additionally, IHG and JJW will open a voco hotel in Algarve, Portugal. IHG offers a simplified conversion process for the abovementioned hotels. The properties will work under the franchise agreements.

The first Vignette Collection hotel, Grand Hotel Wien in Vienna, Austria, enjoys a prime location close to the Vienna State Opera. Known as one of the best hotels in Vienna, Grand Hotel Wien offers 205 guest rooms ranging in class from superior rooms to a Presidential Suite. The hotel also offers a large ballroom, a spa, a bar and a lounge, four restaurants, and 11 meeting rooms. Grand Hotel Wien has a long history. It was first opened in 1870, and at that time it was a very innovative hotel with elevators and even a telegraph office. Johann Strauss was celebrating his 50-year jubilee at this hotel in 1894. The hotel will be refurbished and reopened as a Vignette Collection hotel already next year.

Penina Resort & Golf hotel in Algarve, Portugal, will be the second hotel to join Vignette Collection. It will be also closed for renovation purposes and then reopened next year. Penina Resort & Golf is famous for its golf courses – besides 188 exquisite rooms and four restaurants, this resort has three golf courses that cover an area of 380 acres. The Penina Golf Course is one of the first golf courses in Algarve. The hotel is located not far from the city of Portimao and has a beach nearby.

Currently, the portfolio of IHG includes over 6,000 hotels in more than 100 countries around the world. In the last four years, IHG added six new brands to its portfolio, and Vignette Collection is one of them. The company plans to open at least 100 Vignette Collection hotels in the next 10 years.
