IHG Brings Its voco Brand to Scotland

IHG Hotels & Resorts has announced the debut of the voco Hotels brand in Scotland. The company will open a hotel in Edinburg and a hotel in Glasgow under the emerging brand. Known as a popular choice for short city breaks, IHG tries to open new hotels in strategic places. Edinburgh and Glasgow are famous for their beauty and landmarks, attracting both domestic and international tourists so it was a matter of time that a voco hotel would appear there.

As hotels in Scotland might open in April or May, the opening of two new hotels is a signal that life is slowly going back to normal and leisure travel will resume closer to summer. The name of the brand – voco – means “invite” or “call together” in Latin. The Glasgow hotel will be the first property by this brand in Scotland. The voco Grand Central Glasgow is a rebranded property open instead of the existing Grand Central Hotel. IHG reimagined the popular place, retaining its original charm. The new Glasgow hotel now features 230 rooms, meeting and event spaces, and an interesting option – a possibility to contact resident experts known as voco hosts who are ready to explore the most interesting parts of the city together with guests. voco Grand Central is a perfectly suitable choice for both leisure and business travelers.

voco Edinburgh Haymarket will open after its Glasgow counterpart. The second voco hotel in Scotland will be the seventh voco hotel by IHG. This is a newly built hotel, not a converted property. The voco hotel in Edinburgh is located in the West End and has 150 rooms and suites, as well as an all-day restaurant and a posh bar.

Born in the UK, voco is a brand that focuses on well-being and attention to all details. IHG established this brand in 2018 and has since that time opened voco hotels in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. Last year, the first voco hotels appeared in Great China and the U.S. voco offers a flexible model for developers and owners and appeals to both existing and newly built assets.

In the UK, IHG opened voco hotels in Oxford, Reading, and Cardiff. Much attention is paid to sustainability. Guests of the voco hotels can be sure that all bedding is made from 100% recycled materials, and restaurants offer menus based on regionally sourced ingredients. To make sure guests enjoy a safe stay, IHG adopted Way of Clean procedures developed together with Cleveland Clinic, Diversey, and Ecolab.
