As December has started and the holiday season approaches, many cities around the world try to change their look and offer something special for local people and travelers. Hong Kong is no exception. Starting from December 1, 2017, two mesmerizing light shows over Victoria Harbour were launched. These are a special winter version of the Pulse Light Show and a new version of the internationally acclaimed show “A Symphony of Light”.
The shows are visible from different parts of the city, but the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront is believed to be the best place to observe them. Hong Kong hotels in the central part of the city also benefit from the show as numerous travelers want to stay at hotels where they can see how every evening the Hong Kong Cultural Centre turns into an icy palace.
A Symphony of Light is a sophisticated and a technically advanced show, during which rays of light from as many as 40 buildings on both sides of the Victoria Harbour “draw” incredible pictures. The upgraded version of the show contains new effects with lasers and searchlights. There are exceptionally powerful sources of light on the roofs of the Revenue Tower and the Central Government Offices. They create special lighting effects in the shape of a fan. Moreover, ten large LED panels were installed on select buildings near the waterfront. During the performance, these panels display supportive images and encourage the audience to participate in the show.
The music part of A Symphony of Light is no less stunning. A leading classical orchestra in Asia, the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, recorded a series of music pieces specifically for the 10-minute show. A Symphony of Light starts every day at 8 p.m. Hong Kong time. Once this performance ends, another, a no less amazing show starts. The Hong Kong version of the Pulse Light Show is located at the Hong Kong Cultural Center. The best way to observe the performance is from the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza. It’s a 3D show that creates an illusion of a snowstorm that turns the Cultural Centre into a construction made of ice. Then a powerful blow of the wind takes away the numbers from the Clock Tower and stops time just before Christmas.
After that, a dragon appears and starts searching for the missing numbers. The traditional Chinese creature finds the numbers in different landmarks of the city. With time, the dragon finds all numbers, restores time and this way saves Christmas. Glowing LED balls and a giant crystal ball add special effects that make the show look even more impressive. This show is also daily and will run till December 28th, so hurry up to book a hotel in Hong Kong and see it with your own eyes.
