Airport location, terminals and transportation
Piedmont Triad International Airport is located in the center of the state of North Carolina (USA), near Greensboro. The airport was founded in the late 30s of the last century as a via point when airmail is shipped. It was renamed several times. In 1987, it gained its present name. The airport is the third among the busiest air hubs of North Carolina. The infrastructure of Piedmont Triad includes three air-strips, one of which can accommodate any heave airplane. The airport is a commercial object but it also services the general aviation. Passengers are serviced in one terminal. The annual passenger traffic is about 1.8 people.
To reach the airport, you can take a taxi, bus, car, take a transfer or use the services provided by Uber and Lyft. The airport is serviced by two public bus companies: Amtrak and Greyhound. At the airport, you can also rent a car.
Rental offices, how to find them, where to return car
Car rental services are provided by the following companies: Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National, Thrifty. These companies’ points are situated in the passenger terminal of the airport. You need to go out of the baggage claim area of the arrival concourse and go to the central part. There are information stands of car rental companies opposite taxi ranks and other service points of the airport (between the stairs to the second level). There are exits from the terminal near them.
Cars are taken and returned to the parking lot near the terminal. Rented cars are returned to the special parking lot located near the terminal, on one line with the valet parking area.
Companies offer to book a car in advance. In this case, companies guarantee that you will get the car you have booked. When you execute the rental contract, you need to provide a printed voucher, your identity card and driving license.
Long-term and short-term parking, hotels nearby
In front of the terminal, there are two long-term parking lots, a multi-level garage, a short-term parking lot, and an overflow lot. There is a valet parking lot in front of the entrance to the terminal (in the central part of the upper level). The short-term lot (for less than 2 hours) is located near the terminal. Any parking area is round-the-clock. You can take a transfer only to long-term parking lots.
There is the Marriott Hotel in the territory of Piedmont Triad Airport. The hotel is located behind the long-term parking lot and the garage. From Ted Jonson Parkway, you can reach the hotel by driving on Marriott Drive. In the arrival concourse of the airport, you can find the contact data of the hotels offering a free transfer. These hotels are: Ashford Suites, Embassy Suites, Marriott, Hampton Inn, Hilton Garden, Holiday Inn Express, La Quinta Inn and Suites, etc.
