The 13-story Olympiysky hotel in Hanty-Mansiysk is slated to open in late August. The hotel is summoning 1600 participants of the imminent World Chess Olympiad 2010. Israel Gelfer, FIDE vice president, was reported to have visited the object and given his appreciation of the finishing work being done. He promised to contribute to the signing of an agreement between the World Chess Olympiad 2010 organizing committee and the service company responsible for lodging the participants.
The Yugra Organizing Committee insists that the agreement be signed prior to the opening of the hotel in Russia.
'Dining logistics is still not complete', said Alexander Herber, chairman of the World Chess Olympiad Association Center. 'In order to complete it, we should come to terms with food suppliers who should provide milk, meat, eggs, fruits and other foods.' The arrangers say this is toilsome and time-taking. The Organizing Committee say that 149 national chess communities have applied for the Olympiad scheduled to take place on October 4, 2010.
The World Chess Olympiad is a team contest between chess players from regions and countries who have FIDE membership. The games have been held since 1927. The trophy for winning is the Hamilton-Russel Cup.
